Licensure Definitions

Master's Level Therapist: Master’s level clinicians have a Master’s degree in one of the following fields: mental health, social work, nursing, professional counseling or family therapy. Master’s level clinicians can provide assessments and a variety of psychotherapeutic interventions. To be listed in this directory, Master’s level clinicians must have a license to practice therapy in their state.
Psychiatry: Psychiatrists are medical doctors who are trained in the specialty of psychiatry. Psychiatrists can provide psychiatric evaluations, prescribe psychotropic medications and offer psychotherapeutic interventions. To be listed in this directory, psychiatrists must have a license to practice medicine in their state.
Psychology: Psychologists have doctoral degrees in one of the following fields: educational, child, clinical or counseling psychology. Psychologists can provide a variety of services, including assessments and psychological testing. Most offer psychotherapeutic interventions as well. To be listed in this directory, psychologists must have a license to practice psychology in their state.
